Jank Crazy Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Sabrina guided her hair behind her ear with her thumb and index finger, raised her eyebrows as she said, “I know he lost it when you told him to hold on.”

“Girl!  I didn’t know what to do for a minute.  I told Dani that I would always answer her calls no matter what I was doing.”

“Oh Fal, you really had to put that to the test today.”

Fallon loved Sabrina.  She was hesitant about hiring her best friend and god mother of her daughter to work for her company.  She knew that friends rarely worked out in working relationships because of poor boundaries.  Fallon looked over at her friend as she sipped on her Chardonnay.  Sabrina never called her Fal during working hours, it was always and every time without fail, Ms. Rae.

Fallon sat, admired and appreciated that she could never get Sabrina to switch over to friend mode beyond a quick joke or a gesture that only they understood while they were in the office.

Sabrina sat her wine down and picked up her fork and said, “Okay, so is he fine fine or just fine.”

“Honestly Brina, I wouldn’t even call him fine.  Like if I saw him walking through the mall, I would think that he was attractive, but I would use the word fine.”

“Oh okay, so he just attractive?”

“Nah, he fine as hell when you talk to him if that makes sense.”

Sabrina covered her mouth with her napkin as she rocked forward and then backwards saying with her head tilted to the side, “Come on through Ms. Sapiosexual!”

Fallon literally spit her wine out of her mouth.  She was able to turn her head toward the ground beside her thankfully.

Fallon took some deep breaths, gathered herself and said, “Girl you are crazy!  Seriously though, his aura is dope.  He is powerful yet polite.  He is strong, yet sensitive.  He even apologized for blowing my phone up.  He told me that he isn’t normally under any pressure from his boss, but she really wanted him to fine an accountant that was a “sistah” using his words.”

Sabrina nodded her head and said, “Well that makes sense.”

Fallon wrinkled her face and said, “Why you say that?”

“Because it’s a young black girl that runs that company.”

“Oh yeah, how is it that I don’t know that or am I just not thinking?”

“You just not thinking.  There was so much going on before you went there that you aren’t processing where you were for real.”

Fallon sat in contemplation.  Sabrina said, “Ummm James Fisher, Tina Fisher, Tajier Jones.”

It hit Fallon like a ton a bricks, “Their daughter runs it now, Tanai Fisher.  Isn’t she like 19 or 20.”

“Yep, that’s her.”

“Oh okay.  Scott later explained that she didn’t really put any pressure on him but because she asked, he felt the pressure to fill the position as soon as possible.  He mentioned his need at the barbershop and that’s when Bobby told him about me.”

“Wow to think from a conversation in the barbershop, you got offered an opportunity of a lifetime.”

“Yes.  He told me that I wouldn’t be able to work for any other company nor would I need to.”

Sabrina’s heart dropped.  She found a smile, “That sounds amazing for you Fal.”

Fallon looked at her friend’s eyes and said, “What wrong Brina?  You think I gotta shut the office down don’t you?”

“Honestly, that’s what it sounds like.”

“Nah, I’m giving it to Dani, and I would love it if you could stay there with her and keep her straight.”

Relief fell all over Sabrina, she loved her job.  “Absolutely, I’d be honored.”

“I saw a video yesterday where a man was explaining all the things in this life that is more important than money.  He said I can give you a million dollars but you die tomorrow, do you want it?”

Sabrina raised her eyebrows.  Fallon continued, “He said time is more precious, so don’t waste it.  He then said more examples like I can give you a million dollars today but you have to be sick for the rest of your life.  See your health is more important.  He said I’ll give you a million dollars but your momma has to die tomorrow.  The point is relationships matter more!

I appreciate you sis.  The company I got hired with today does things in a different way than I understand in business.  They get money but the things I mentioned just now mean more to them.  Time, health, relationships, the things that really matter in life.

I will follow their practices as much as I can.   I’m also going to multiply your salary by four and give you some of your time back.  As I get blessed so shall you.  Having a friend like you is priceless.  I’ve emailed you the paperwork for everything to be switched over.  Dani has already sent back her signatures, I just need you to sign and it’s done.”

Tears trickled out of Sabrina’s eyes as she said softly, “Oh my God. . .”
